Coming Soon: Methylation Genotype Profile

BOTHELL, WA,  January 17th, 2012 - Iverson is pleased to announce the introduction of a new test -- the Methylation Genotype Profile. A wide variety of biochemical pathways require the addition of a methyl group (a single carbon atom with 3 hydrogen atoms attached to the carbon atom). This entire process is controlled by a complex of different methylation-related enzymes (e.g. MTHFR, MTRR, COMT, BHMT, CBS, MAO, NOS, VDR, SHMT, etc). Each of these enzymes is synthesized according to gene codes in the DNA. Each of the genes (alleles) has the same name as the enzyme that it codes for. However, there are common genetic variations of each of these alleles caused by minor changes in the code, usually a single base change in the code sequence. The "variants"of the normal genes produce enzymes with limited or almost no ability to catalyze their specific biochemical pathways.

Presence of methylation gene variants has been associated with a wide variety of disease conditions: cardiovascular, cancer, depression, loss of anti-oxidant capacity, and other abnormal medical conditions.

Stay tuned for more information.
