Give Your Patients a Window into Their Future Health
Welcome
to the exciting new era of personalized medicine. It's a time when
patients are taking charge of their health as never before. And when
practicing medicine means helping your patients live longer, healthier
lives through prevention and early detection of disease.
Today's
leading health care practitioners rely on genetic testing to identify a
patient's inherited risk of disease and to plan prevention strategies.
Advances
in genetic science offer some of the most exciting possibilities for
health care today. These new diagnostic tools can give you a "roadmap"
to your patient's future likelihood of disease, and a clear "route" for
prescribing preventative therapies.
Now,
new methods of genetic testing can show whether a gene is being
expressed. These new tests can be used to better predict whether a
patient is developing disease and also whether prevention and/or
treatment is affecting gene expression.
A Baseline Look that Can Be Used for a Patient's Lifetime Iverson's
Physicians LogicTM Panel tests for a wide range of common genetic
diseases. It offers a baseline look at a patient's predisposition for
developing:
- Addison's disease
- Anemia
- Asthma
- Atherosclerosis
- Autism
- Breast Cancer
- Estrogen Metabolism
- Grave's disease
- Hormone Replacement Therapy
- Major Histocompatibility Complex (MHC)
- Longevity/Brevity
- Systemic Lupus Erythematosus
- Multiple Sclerosis
- Obesity
- Osteoarthritis
- Prostate Cancer
- Type 2 Diabetes
RNA-Based Test Indicates Whether Your Treatments Are Working and is Reusable Throughout Your Patient's Lifetime
Unlike
other broad-spectrum genetic tests, our Physician's LogicTM Panel is
RNA-based. It shows whether certain genes are being expressed or are
manifesting their function.
We
utilize customized, reusable microchips for each test. This means that
we create a personalized microchip for each of your patients that can
be reused several times, allowing you to call your patient back to see
whether specific genes are being expressed, and therefore, whether
preventative treatments are working.
You can use these follow-up tests as a post-visit protocol to monitor your patient's progress over time.
Vital Information for Research and Other Uses If
you are doing research into genetic disease or have a cluster of
patients with special needs, our Physician's LogicTM Panel also allows
you to request custom arrays for advancing clinical diagnostics.
Please see your Iverson representative for more information about how this test can be customized to suit your needs.
Understanding the Genetics
DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) is the double-stranded nucleic acid that carries an organism's genetic blueprint inside every living cell. RNA (ribonucleic acid) is its single-stranded chemical cousin. RNA translates DNA's genetic code into proteins and is responsible for the transmission of genetic information inside the cell. When RNA does its job of transmitting the DNA blueprint, it is said to be "expressed."
DNA-based genetic testing only reveals whether a certain gene variant is present.
RNA-based
tests such as the Physician's LogicTM Panel indicate whether certain
genes are being expressed, in other words, whether the RNA is already
transmitting the DNA blueprint within the cell.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why should I order the Physician's Logic PanelTM for my patients?
Many
of the diseases tested for in the panel have great potential to be
prevented, delayed or mitigated through early detection and lifestyle
changes. Armed with this information, you can help your patients take
charge of their health and increase their potential to live longer,
healthier lives. You can also track the progress of prevention by
seeing whether any of the genes that lead to those diseases are being
expressed.
I'm not a geneticist. How can I interpret the test results?
Our
simplified report will clearly demonstrate whether your patient shows
expression of the genes associated with the development of each of the
listed diseases.
Why is this test better than a detailed family history?
Family histories can be full of errors, muddied by imperfect memory and missing large amounts of information. In addition, paternity can be uncertain in some cases, and in the case of adoptions, family history may be missing altogether. The Physician’s LogicTM Panel eliminates all of those potential errors and information "holes", giving you and your patient factual certainty. The test also lets you know whether those disease genes have become active.
Why is Iverson's test better than tests offered by other genetic firms?
Many
gene-testing firms only test for DNA. The Iverson Physician's LogicTM Panel is RNA-based, which means we can tell whether a certain gene is
being expressed. At Iverson, we also utilize reusable microchips for
our tests. This allows you to "check" your patient every so often to
see whether specific genes are being expressed, and therefore, whether
your preventative treatments are working.
